Introduction

In Operations Center, there are several important terms that help define the structure of your work and workflows. Understanding these key components will make navigating and managing your tasks more efficient. Below is a breakdown of the most commonly used terms within the system.

Operations Center Glossary

TermDescription
Work ItemA task or item of work that needs to be completed. It includes various fields such as attachments, comments, checklists, and an audit log throughout its lifecycle. This term is typically used in API and back-end contexts.
CardsA visual representation of a work item within the user interface. Cards are used in all user interfaces to represent work items.
FieldA structured container for storing information related to a work item or resource.
BoardA virtual canvas that visualizes a workflow, structured into columns and swimlanes containing cards.
Column (Board)A visual representation of a stage (or state) in a workflow, used to show progress over time.
Lane (Board)A horizontal visual divider on a board used to create separation, such as by team or priority.
Category (Work Item)The category of work that needs to be done, typically used to classify tasks or projects.
Tag (Work Item)An assignable label (tag) that can be used to group or signify cards according to the user’s needs.
WIPWork in Progress — represents tasks currently being worked on within a column.
WIP LimitThe maximum allowed number of cards in a column at one time, ensuring work is not overburdened.
ResourceA tangible or intangible asset required to complete work items, including people, tools, or equipment.
SystemA customer environment in a multi-tenant system architecture.
ChecklistA list of smaller tasks that need to be completed as part of a larger work item.
Custom FieldA user-defined field that can be created in addition to the system's default fields to capture specific data for a board.
